Andrew Iyer is a Commercial Lawyer and Arbitration Specialist with over 30 years of legal experience. He is an ex-solicitor and a former senior partner of a major international law firm in the City of London, where he practised Energy, Insurance, Shipping and Commodities/Trade law, headed the firm's Global Energy & Offshore Group and its Italian Shipping practice, and was appointed to the firm's Strategic Leadership Team. He has also worked in-house as Senior Legal Adviser to a well known international marine business and is a member of the International Bar Association. He set up IY LEGAL in 2015 with the aim of providing top quality, boutique legal services at a genuinely affordable price.
Whilst a solicitor, he was regularly recognised by 'Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession' and 'The Legal 500' as an expert and leading individual for Energy, Shipping and Commodities/Trade law.
Andrew has acted for a wide range of national and international clients, including: oil and gas majors and many of the world’s leading energy and renewables contractors, service providers and businesses; shipowners, charterers and shippers in the principal marine centres such as Greece, Italy, Northern Europe, the Far East, China, South America and the USA; many of the world's largest commodity traders and brokers dealing in the full range of commodities, derivatives and precious metals; P&I Clubs in the International Group, Hull & Machinery, construction industry and energy risk insurers; yacht brokers; investors, asset managers, banks and other financial institutions; companies involved in transport, the movement of goods, information and logistics; designers and providers of online trading platforms and environments and blockchain technology; and fintech companies.
He has been involved in many significant transactions, ventures and international deals and has successfully represented clients in some of the most prominent, high value and complex commercial arbitrations in London. He regularly handles all manner of LMAA, LCIA, ICC and trade arbitrations in London and overseas.
